Durango Native Stories

Durango Native Stories is a series of personal stories told by locals who have called the area home for generations. Each presentation includes first-hand recollections and historic family photographs, many more than a century old.

Featuring:

Amador Tucson is a descendant member of the Southern Ute Tribe. He’s the founder, musician, and singer for the Latino band, “Tucson y Los Amigos.” Amador is best known as the owner / operator of Tucson’s Barber & Styling (est. 1968) where he and his son Isador provide classic haircuts today.

Emma Shock is the matriarch of the La Plata County Fair, serving as a 4-H volunteer for more than 70 years (as she still does today).  Emma was a cook at the Allison and Ignacio schools until she quit in 1972 to enroll in college so she could teach at the Ignacio elementary school starting in 1978.
